When I was growing up in Pakistan, I learned that shaving was a very important part of
every almost every man’s daily routine. I bet the guys/girls at GAFBO are scowling at this but that is neither here nor there. Every morning, my dad would get his shaving brush ready. He would lather up with the best smelling shaving soaps. With the glistening edge of his razor he would prepare for a day of being a bad ass. Of course, he always left his mustache intact.
When I grew up and visited Pakistan for research, I made sure to pay regular visits to the barber shops in Karachi. I will never forget those experiences and maybe that was the first time I felt like a real grownup. The barbers in Karachi took the shave very seriously. My appointment included a beard cleanup, a haircut, a 20 minute massage, and a facial. They probably spent 30 minutes perfecting my beard, alone. I loved every minute of it.
Since the day I got back to the US, I have been in search of a similar barber shop and it wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I found one. Let me introduce Moustache: Greenwich Tonsorial in West Village, NYC, NY.
